Following up on the success of the first 13 installments, the city’s 14th annual celebration of the written word will kick off Friday, October 12th and run through Sunday, the 14th. Once again, the three-day Festival will be based in a variety of downtown venues and feature literary luminaries from around the world, and just around the corner!
“The Burlington Book Festival has become a highly valued tradition," proclaimed Senior U.S. Senator, Patrick Leahy, before a standing room only crowd on opening night last year. “This event is an important contribution to the cultural vitality of the region.” “One of the liveliest, most creatively organized events of its kind I’ve ever attended!” exclaimed the evening’s headliner, literary critic, essayist, editor, Guggenheim Fellow and Lila Wallace Writer’s Award-winning poet, David Lehman.“
All events will once again be free and open to the public, and each of the Festival’s three days will have a distinct flavor. Friday evening will feature a presentation by a headlining poet of international distinction as well as the annual Festival Dedication ceremonies. Author readings, signings, panel discussions, workshops, exhibits, lectures and Q&A sessions involving writers of every variety will take place throughout Saturday and Sunday, along with such special attractions as demos, rare book appraisals, original theatrical productions, film screenings, musical performances, student presentations and the 12th annual Grace Paley Poetry Series, curated by Major Jackson.
A rousing success...the crowds were large, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The North Country has nothing else quite like the Burlington Book Festival!"
This past fall's celebration proved a triumph and was enthusiastically embraced by the community. This year's is certain to build on that continued success. A full schedule of events will appear here later this summer. I hope you'll mark your calendar and make a note to join us in writing the next chapter of the Burlington Book Festival. I look forward to seeing you in October!
